"Inspiring today's students to meet tomorrow's challenges"

Welcome to the Klamath County School District-Oregon's largest geographical school district. I am honored to serve as Superintendent, and I am excited to be part of a fine educational organization.

The KCSD provides a K-12 education for approximately 6,200 students in 21 schools: 12 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 3 high schools, 2 K-12 schools, 1 alternative school, and 1 charter school. The district employs approximately 800 licensed and classified staff. Our schools serve as the social hub for 7 distinct communities in our county. The geography of the district presents challenges which are unique in our state. For example, in order to cover the distances involved in supporting our students, our bus drivers log more than a million miles per year!

Our district features a comprehensive academic curriculum which focuses on student achievement in literacy, math, and writing. Our elementary curriculum includes full-day Kindergarten, 90-minute daily reading blocks, 40-minute daily writing blocks, and 60-minute daily math blocks. Beginning in Fall 2008, the KCSD will implement a district-wide elementary PE program to insure our students are healthy-moving and learning. Our middle school and high school curriculum maintains the district focus on student achievement. KCSD students receive quality instruction in the core academic areas and have available a full range of course electives. The KCSD has high graduation rates (96.7%) and low drop out rates (0.6%). Students who graduate from our schools are well prepared and successful in higher education, the military, and the work force.

Our guiding principles state that everything we do will provide:

1. Continued implementation of the District Literacy Plan.

2. Continued instruction supporting positive student behavior, promoting safe and civil schools.

3. Implementation of the Elementary PE program.

4. Continued emphasis on student achievement for all students, and emphasis on maintaining high graduation rates and low student drop out rates.
